
SUHAKAM recognizes the importance to promote the harmonization of Islamic principles and human rights among the Islamic community as well as to enhance its engagement with Islamic religious authorities in Malaysia through collaborative efforts. Among the key initiatives undertaken by SUHAKAM in this regard include:
- Collaborated with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) to organize a National Seminar on Islam and Human Rights on 27 November 2018.
- Published and distributed the report on the above seminar to the Islamic community in Malaysia.
- Provided ‘Human Rights Literacy’ session for officials of Islamic religious authorities at both Federal and state levels.
- Provided proposed text on thematic human rights topics for Friday sermons to both Federal and state Islamic authorities. Among the topcis were: social justice, women and children’s rights, anti-trafficking, combating torture and ill-treatment.
