Business and Human Rights

The business and human rights agenda has significantly progressed over the last decade.  In 2011, the United Nations Human Rights Council unanimously endorsed the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (Guiding Principles). SUHAKAM had given greater attention and priority to the area of business and human rights since 2010, and carried out a number of activities focusing specifically on the subject. Among these included a series of roundtable discussions and forums with stakeholders, in a research study focusing on logging and plantation industries in the country and training programmes.

Strategic Framework on a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights for Malaysia

SUHAKAM developed and presented a Strategic Framework on a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights for Malaysia to the Government in 2015. It provides a policy direction for the formulation of an National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights for Malaysia towards promoting greater respect for human rights the State and non-State actors including businesses, civil societies, and individuals, as well as groups affected by adverse business-related human rights impacts. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6FQ7SONa3PROHVpMngzc0NhUHM/view

Project to Support the Development of Malaysia’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAPBHR)

As part of SUHAKAM’s efforts to promote the application of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (Guiding Principles) in Malaysia, SUHAKAM embarked on a project to support the development of Malaysia’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAPBHR).

For purposes of raising awareness and promoting greater understanding of the Guiding Principles among various stakeholders, several relevance materials been translated into Malay, printed and disseminated, namely, the Guiding Principles, FAQ about the Guiding Principles, and Interpretive Guide on Corporate Responsibility to Respect Human Rights. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bT9gG2Ba_1e2n4TP8Gcgmjt4TEjg8lhd/view
