Forced labour issues in the plantation industry have garnered substantial attention, particularly the working conditions of workers in the palm oil supply chain. The increased scrutiny of forced labour and working conditions in the plantation industry presents a significant opportunity to improve transparency and accountability.
The objective of the discussion is to:
- Understand the extent of forced labour risks within the plantation industry;
- Provide a platform for industry players to share their concerns, challenges, and barriers in addressing forced labour risks in their activities and supply chains;
- Examine the efficacy of existing laws, policies, and practices as well as other applicable mechanisms in addressing forced labour in Malaysia;
- Identify the role of industry players, the government, and other stakeholders in tackling forced labour in the plantation industry; and
Share best practices and recommendations to address forced labour issues in the plantation industry.
