DATUK LOK YIM PHENG
Datuk Lok Yim Pheng commenced her teaching career in 1978 and was seconded to the Public Service Department of Malaysia in 2004.
She was elected Executive Board Member of the Education International (EI) Headquartered in Belgium at EI’s 4th World Congress held in July 2004 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. In addition, she is also Executive Board Member of EI for Asia Pacific Region.
Her dedication to unionism resulted in her election as both the Secretary General of the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) as well as the Secretary General of Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS). She also heads the National Joint Council for Support Group Workers.
Datuk Lok Yim Pheng is also the Coordinator of the Women’s Network in EI’s Asia-Pacific Region, and was Treasurer of the National Council of Women’s Organizations of Malaysia (NCWO).
She has championed several issues concerning education, women, teachers and civil servants. Her views are prominently represented in various newspapers and TV stations.
Datuk Lok Yim Pheng has also conducted programmes on the Right to Education and presented papers at various public forums.
She has played a prominent role on holding frequent dialogues with teacher leaders in ASEAN region to discuss common goals and problems.
Datuk Lok Yim Pheng was appointed as a Commissioner of SUHAKAM in June 2016 for the term 2016-2019.
